Topic: Same Calamity, Different Interpretations

Text: Daniel 12:5-13

Key Verse: “Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand” (Daniel 12:10).

Towards the end of what has been a grave and graphic revelation and illustration of the end time events, Daniel was introduced to a man (most certainly an angel) clothed in linen, standing upon the waters of the river to announce the duration of the second half of the Great Tribulation which will be for a period of three and half years.

On further inquiry, Daniel was told that the time of these events are certain and cannot be changed but the effect will be different on the wise and wicked participants of the Great Tribulation. The suffering will purify some of the Jews who will eventually be sealed, while the wicked will be radicalized the more and move on in their wickedness. We have seen many unrepentant sinners become softened and melted under the corrective yoke of affliction.

Others become disillusioned because of the problems they go through. But the good news to all is that the tough times we sometimes face will bring out the very best in us if we wisely depend upon God. We grow smarter and wiser through tough times than we do through the easy times. Therefore, endeavour to hold tightly to God while evil times last. They have very short shelf life afterall, and sooner than later, they must succumb to God’s immutable dictates. As the song writer rightly posts, “storms do not alarm me, they sometimes must cease”.
