JUST IN: Nigeria Politicians hire pastors to pray for Buhari’s death, says Aide

President Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, on Sunday alleged that some members of the political elite in Nigeria travelled to Niger Republic and India among other countries to hire marabouts to ensure the President dies.

She claimed that the same set of people also engaged pastors and bishops to pray for the President’s death and that the religious leaders resorted to attacking Buhari when he did not die despite their prayers.

Onochie disclosed this on her Facebook page just as the President’s latest medical vacation entered its second week.

She however did not disclose the identities of the politicians and the pastors she claimed were hired.

Buhari and aiasha

President Buhari’s aide said there must be a reason why the politicians did not want to see Buhari in power.

She said that was why they rigged him out in his first three shots at the Presidency and now they wanted him dead after he got his victory at the 2015 presidential election with the support of the card readers introduced by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Onochie alleged that before the election, when it was obvious that Buhari would win, the politicians “scammed” former President Goodluck Jonathan to postpone the election so that they could further empty the treasury.

She wrote, “There must be a reason why some members of the political elite in Nigeria do not want to see President Muhammadu Buhari in power. They rigged him out of elections in the past and now that Nigerians overpowered them with the support of the card reader, they want him dead.

“In 2015, when it was obvious the electorates had their eyes set on him, they scammed  President Jonathan to postpone the election and to further empty the Nigerian treasury so they could ‘buy’ more electorates.

“But they knew Nigerians were not ready to be bought so they pocketed the campaign loot. Those who took part in the scamming of ex-President Jonathan, are being asked to cough up and the junkiest of them all, is cursing and swearing because he is being held accountable.

“Transition was a scam. Financial books were cooked. They tried to cover up their financial wickedness and recklessness against this nation. They hired some school dropouts, products of their 16 years of mis-governance across the nation, to try to disrupt the nation.

“And then they hired red, green, blue, and all shades of media outfits to unleash a coordinated attack on his government. Bravely, he soldiers on.

“They travelled as far as Niger Republic, India, etc. and in vain, they engaged the services of marabouts and soothsayers (mere men), to their own disappointments.

“Pastors and bishops (mere men), whose unholy services were engaged to pray for his death, resorted to attacking him once they have prayed and he did not die.”

Onochie further alleged that the unnamed politicians had been announcing the President’s death on cloned websites, therefore raising exaggerated concerns about his health.

BREAKING: President Buhari handed over to me- Osinbajo fires critics

President Buhari handed over to me- Osinbajo clarifies

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo last night via his twitter handle, addressed the speculations making the rounds that President Buhari did not properly hand over power to him. Responding to a twitter user who asked why President Buhari did not hand over the affiars of the country to him, Osinbajo said President Buhari did transfer power to him and that he had sent a letter to the Senate in compliance with S.145 (1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). That section of the constitution reads:

Osinbajo tweets

“Whenever the President transmits to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives a written declaration that he is proceeding on vacation or that he is otherwise unable to discharge the functions of his office, until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary such functions shall be discharged by the Vice-President as Acting President.”

There have been an uproar over the non-reference of Osinbajo as acting president in the letter President Buhari sent to the senate notifying them of his trip to the UK for his medical follow-up. President Buhari had in the letter stated that he was handing over to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who would coordinate the activities of government in his absence. Some Nigerians felt this was an oversight and that Osinbajo should have been addressed in the letter as Acting President.

Osinbajo has however deleted his tweet.

Buhari didn’t name Osinbajo Acting President in his letter – Senator

Buhari didn’t name Osinbajo Acting President in his letter-Senator Ohuabunwa says

Senator Mao Ohuabunwa on Tuesday, raised an objection to the content of the letter sent to the senate by President Buhari regarding his indefinite medical follow-up in the UK. President Buhari’s letter was read on the floor of the senate by Senate president Bukola Saraki. Ohuabunwa argued that the letter did not transfer power to Osinbajo as it did not refer to him as the Acting President of Nigeria.
President Buhari who left for his medical follow-up in the UK on Sunday May 7th, had in the letter to the senate, stated that he was handing over to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who will 2coordinate the activities of the government”

When the letter was read on the floor of the senate, Senator Ohuabunwa pointed out that President Buhari’s letter did not state that Osinbajo would preside over the country as Acting President. Ohabunwa pointed out that it is breech of the constitution for the letter to state that Osinbajo would coordinate the affairs of the government. According to Ohabunwa, the Nigerian constitution recognizes an acting president and not a “coordinator of the affairs of government”. Ohabunwa said the transfer of power to Osinbajo was not clearly stated in the letter.

Buhari didn’t name Osinbajo Acting President in his letter-Senator Ohuabunwa says

“Whenever the President transmits to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives a written declaration that he is proceeding on vacation or that he is unable to discharge the functions of his office, until he transmits to them the written declaration to the contrary, such function shall be discharged by the Vice-President as Acting President. Mr. President, I don’t think in our Constitution we have anything like ‘coordinating president’ or ‘coordinating vice president.’ It is either you are vice president or you are acting president and any letter (on transfer of power) should be unambiguous and very clear.

So, I am saying that this letter really does not convey anything because ‘coordinating’ has no space or any place in our Constitution. We have been having letters like this in which he will tell us who is the acting president and we will know who to deal with as a Senate. This is the highest legislative body of any country and if you are sending us a letter, it should be direct, unambiguous. So, I am saying that this letter, for me, is not right and maybe it should be sent back.” he said.
Majority Leader, Senator Ahmad Lawan, however countered Ohuabunwa’s argument saying President Buhari had fulfilled the provisions of Section 145 of the Constitution by transmitting the letter.

“Let me say that the point of order raised by my colleague and the explanation that subsequently followed should not have been and my reasons are simple. I still rely on the first paragraph of that letter which Mr. President wrote to this Senate and read by President of the Senate and I will read Section 145. Any other word in this letter or indeed anywhere else is irrelevant. I, therefore, feel that Mr. President has done what the Constitution requires him to do and I urge this Senate not to go ahead to discuss this because it is not an issue. We have the budget and so many other serious issues for us to discuss and Nigerians are waiting.”

Ruling on the debate, the senate president, Bukola Saraki, dismissed Ohuabunwa’s argument and ruled him out of order.

“I think it is a very clear issue and what we should be guided by is the Constitution, and I think that it is clear. The letter has referred to the Constitution (Section 145) and there is no ambiguity in the Constitution. So, I don’t think there is any issue there. Let me first rule you out of order, Senator Mao.” he said.

Chibok Girls’ Release, 2nd Anniversary Gift To Nigerians -Buhari

Release of Chibok girls anniversary gift, says Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has described the rescue of 82 Chibok schoolgirls as a pleasant second anniversary gift of his administration to Nigerians.

The President made this known in Abuja on Sunday at a reception organised in honour of the rescued girls who were brought to Abuja after their release on Saturday.

The All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government will be celebrating its 2nd anniversary on May 29.

President Buhari expressed delight over the release of the girls and reassured Nigerians, especially relatives and friends of the determination of his administration to secure freedom for the remaining 113 girls and other Nigerians still under the insurgents captivity.

“I cannot express in a few words how happy I am to welcome our dear girls back to freedom.

“On behalf of all Nigerians, I will like to share my joy with you, your parents, your relatives, friends and the Government of Borno State on regaining your freedom.

“The Federal Government will like to commend the Security Agencies, the Red Cross, local authorities, local and foreign NGOs and all those who contributed in one way or another to secure the release of our Chibok Girls.

“Let me reassure Nigerians, especially relatives and friends of the remaining girls that the Federal Government will spare no effort to see that they and all other Nigerians who have been abducted safely regain their freedom.’’

He said the Presidency would personally supervise the performance of those entrusted with their welfare and commitments made by the Federal Government on their health, education, security and general well-being.

He said: “No human being should go through this kind of ordeal.’’

The President directed security agencies and state governments to continue to provide special protection to educational institutions vulnerable to this kind of outrage especially in remote areas.

According to him, the Federal Government is resolutely determined to safeguard the security of all Nigerians at all times.

President Buhari congratulated the rescued girls and their parents on their safe return.

A total of 276 girls were abducted from Government Girls Secondary School Chibok, in Borno on April 14, 2014 while preparing to sit for their final exams.Fifty seven of the girls escaped and 219 were taken away by the terrorists.

So far, 106 of the girls have been recovered, leaving 113 still unaccounted for.

In Oct. 2016, 21 of the girls were freed by Boko Haram after negotiations between the group and the Nigerian government brokered by the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Swiss government.

The reception was attended by ministers, service chiefs and other government officials.

President Buhari

The Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Nyanya, has expressed concern over President Muhammadu Buhari’s health, and called on the Church to pray for his quick recovery.

The Church made the call in a communiqué issued on Sunday in Abuja at the end of the Annual Synod of the diocese, under the chairmanship of the Bishop of Nyanya, Rt. Rev Samuel Nortey.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sunday’s synod is entitled: “God’s Word, My Guide’’.

Kalu, in the communiqué, commended Buhari for the fight against corruption, noting that the fight should be based on the rule of law and no sacred cows should be spared.

He also praised Buhari for the relative peace in the Niger Delta region through the dialogue option adopted by the Federal Government.

He called on Nigerians, irrespective of political, religious and ethnic background to join hands with the present administration to build a country where peace, rule of law and freedom of speech reign.

“We call on the government to sustain the peace to revolve the Niger Delta issues.

“We call on the government to take action against the menace of killers in the guise of herdsmen who have been wreaking havoc on lives and property of helpless Nigerians across the country.

“We condemn the continued killings of innocent persons in Southern Kaduna and call for an immediate stop to the attacks,’’ he noted.

The synod secretary, in the communiqué, also urged government officials to stop blaming past administrators for the current economic downturn, adding that they should focus on ways to move the nation forward.

On the path of education, Kalu urged the government to restructure the educational curricula to focus strongly on entrepreneurial skill acquisition, which would help the youths of the country.
